My mother had shingles. Basically, if you are exposed to chickenpox in adulthood and never had children, as herpes zoster. There are small bumps, but it is hard to explain, but this skin rashes and inflamed patches on one or more parts of the body. I think it looks much worse than that because I think the majority of those affected are recovering well from shingles.

Herpes zoster (or simply zoster), commonly known as shingles, also known as area, is a viral disease that is characterized by an eruption of painful blisters in a limited area on one side of the body identified, often in a group. The first infection with varicella-zoster virus (VZV) causes short-term (acute period), varicella disease and usually occurs in children and adolescents. Solved after a series of chickenpox, the virus is not eliminated from the body, but it can happen to cause shingles, a disease with symptoms very different, first often several years after infection.
The varicella-zoster virus may be dormant in the nerve cell bodies and less frequently in neuronal cells of the satellite dorsal, cranial nerve or autonomic ganglion, without any symptoms. In an immunocompromised person, perhaps several years or decades after a chickenpox infection, the virus can travel the nerve cell body and along the axons leave cause to viral infections of the skin in the region of nerve cells. The virus can spread from one or more ganglia along nerves of the affected segmentand infect the corresponding dermatome (an area of skin innervated by a spinal nerve), causing a painful skin rash. Although the rash usually heals within two to four weeks, in some patients residual nerve pain for months or years, a so-called post-herpetic neuralgia. Exactly how the virus remains dormant in the body, and then active again is not included.

You can only get if you have had shingles, chickenpox. The virus is latent (sleeping) in nerve roots. Later in life, which can trigger a backup, but not the classical outbreaks of chickenpox.

Instead, it appears as an eruption of vesicles on a line or band in a box on one side of the body, a dermatome (). It may be a small or large area, a few light bulbs, or more, may disappear in a few days or a month or longer to heal to win. It may be painful or cause much pain.

A person entrusted with shingles causes the virus that causes chickenpox in someone who has never been or have been vaccinated against chickenpox (contagious until all the blisters crust over) they have. But you can not from someone with shingles shingles or chickenpox.
